The Marais district is the symbol of the eclecticism of the people of Paris. Marais zone went from being a swamp, to being the residential area for the French aristocratic class, which chose this area for its proximity to the Louvre that was King Charles V preferred residence, to being abandoned till the 60’s of the last century when it sprung to new life. Now in Paris’ Marais area you might find many museums that are housed in the “Hotels” of the aristocracy and it’s the centre of the homosexual life of Paris. At the number six of Place des Vosges you will find the house of Victor Hugo that harbours a museum about the life and the works of this great writer.
