Avenue des Champs-Elysées

General Info

This 2 kilometres long Avenue that connects the Louvre Museum to the Arc de Triomphe, is probably one of the most known avenues in the world! This is the name that the Paris' people gave to it. Thanks to its famous cinemas, cafés and beautiful shops this avenue is one of the must see of the gorgeous city of Paris. Built in 1616 from Mary De Medici as an extension of the Gardens of the Tuileries, it became through the centuries one of the most fashionable avenues of the city. Paris considers this avenue as part of its historic heritage; recently the city administration has denied the permit to a famous Swedish outfit chain to open a shop on the Champs Elysées not to downgrade the avenue itself.
