Lille Hotels
LilleLille is a city in northern France, situated on the Deule River, along the border to Belgium. It is relatively small, with a population of approximately 250,000 people, and has a charming, intimate atmosphere. The buildings are beautiful, with a rich mixture of architectural styles, and Lille has come into its own recently as a destination of choice for people who are vacationing in France. There are many lovely museums, including the Charles de Gaulle Museum, the Pasteur Institute Museum, and the Musee des Beaux Arts, which is famous the world over and is possibly second only to the Louvre itself for the quality of the work contained there. Lille is also home to the Citadel Park and Zoo, which includes the Bois de Boulogne woods. There are also a Botanical Garden and Tropical Greenhouse, known particularly for its variety of dahlias and roses. The Vieux Lille, or Old City, retains the atmosphere it had when Lille was the capital of Flanders, and is filled with quaint streets paved with stones that are hundreds of years old. There are numerous shops in this section of town, from upscale boutiques that sell the latest in chic; to dusty little antiques shops where treasures are waiting to be found. Lille is also home to La Braderie, a huge flea market that occurs every September, which sells everything, from clothing to breakfast. Lille has in recent years developed quite a reputation as a place of gastronomical delights, and you can find every type of French cuisine, from the gourmet to the gourmande, from the four course meal with wine list to crepes filled with creme from street front shops. Basically, whether you’re looking for beautiful architecture, rich history, good food, or lots of shopping, you can find it in Lille.
