Usera is a small, but vibrant district in Madrid, not far from the city center but Usera does have its own sites to sustain itself. Most notable of these sites is Marcelo Usera street, an exciting commercial area named after Colonel Marcelo Usera. The neighborhood has a festival every year around mid-September, celebrating the holidays. Travelers who want to spend some time enjoying nature while staying in a hotel in Madrid can go to Usera's several parks, such as Parque de Comillas, Parque Sur, and Parque de Olof Palme, or visit the bordering Manzanares river. For any tennis players, booking a Madrid hotel in Usera puts you footsteps away from the Caja Magica Tennis Center. If either of those aren't interesting, explore some the restaurants and cafes in the area and taste some Spanish cuisine. Or utilize public transportation, as Usera also has three main metro stations and several bus lines, providing easy access to the city center and to the outskirts of Madrid. There's also a new cultural center opening in Usera called the Matadero Madrid, designed to offer a variety of contemporary activities and services such as restaurants, art exhibits, bookshops, concerts, and more. The inaugurate entertainment is expected in 2011.
