Estadio Santiago Bernabéu is the football stadium located in Madrid, Spain. The stadium began construction in 1944, and the football stadium is the home of the Real Madrid. The original name for the stadium was to be the same as the old stadium (Estadio Chamartin), but it was instead named after the club president in 1955, Santiago Bernabéu. In 2005 the UEFA sanctioned Estadio Santiago Bernabéu an Elite or five star stadium. There have been many expansions to the stadium since it was built in order to accommodate more and more fans. And with UEFA regulations forbidding standing at matches, the stadium has undergone renovations as recently as 2003 to put in more seats. The stadium also has plans to add a retractable roof. Since this stadium is the world’ most famous, it has hosted a large number of events including the European Cup Final, the 1982 World Cup, and the 1964 European Nations’ Cup. It is also scheduled to host the 2010 European Cup Final. Hotels near Estadio Santiago Bernabéu are a football fan’s dream.
