La Rambla

La Rambla is one of the best known avenues in the world! Made up by a series of linked streets, called "Ramblas" (hence the plural name "Las Ramblas"), it starts in Plaça Catalunya and ends on Barcelona's Port Vell on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. This river like avenue, rambla is actually a Spanish word that derives from the Arabic and means riverbed, is loved both by travelers and Barcelona's citizens. While strolling under the shade of the trees that coast this beautiful boulevard, you will be able to see some of the most intersting Barcelona's characters. Mimes, street performes, actors, living statues, street acrobats and many more entertaining characters use the Rambla as their stage. While pacing in the central "artery" of the city of Barcelona be aware that, since it is often pretty crowded, you must pay attention to pickpockets. On the Ramblas you will find some interesting Barcelona's attractions such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu that is the city's opera house, the Mercat de la Boqueria, Barcelona's most known street market and the Centre d'Art Santa Monica, a contemporary art museum. The Rambla offers more, beautiful cafés, stricking buildings, great shops and the possibility to blend with other fellow travelers and the people of Barcelona.
