Casa Mila

Designed by Gaudí for the Milà family in 1905, the Milà House (or La Pedrera) is one of the finest examples of a residential Gaudí design in Barcelona. It is visited by many every year, and serves as a living monument to Gaudí’s genius. The Mila House is truly a living design that seems more like a sculpture than a residence. Perhaps the most striking feature is the cylindrical courtyard at its center that climbs to the sky like a beacon to the heavens. It is truly awe-inspiring, and well worth the time to visit for the courtyard alone. The building’s balconies are sculpted in wrought iron and plaster and are distinctively Gaudí. Throughout the interior are vaulted, hand-painted ceilings supported by monumental columns, and grand sweeping halls with great attention paid to every detail. When you visit the Milà House, you will see Gaudí’s vision in all of its fantastical and unique glory, and come to understand the truly inspired approach that he applied to his work; there is no better example of Gaudí’s creativity and craftsmanship than the Milà House in Barcelona.
