Barcelona Funicular

If you plan to visit Montjuïc Castle, then you will likely take the Funicular from the Avenida del Paralelo up to the castle at the summit. The funicular is a cable drawn train, and is the primary method for getting up the hill. The train stops at the half-way point, along the Avenida de Miramar, where you can depart and spend some time exploring some of the garden areas, or you an continue up to Montjuïc Castle at the summit. There is also another well-known funicular in Barcelona, which is cable-drawn up the face of Mount Tibidabo. Each of the trains is a very similar experience, with the views being only slightly different based on the hill that you are climbing. If you enjoy amusement parks, then you may prefer to take Tibidabo funicular, as it stops at the Tibidabo Amusement Park. While it isn’t an historic site, it is still a fun place to spend part of your day, complete with roller coasters, and an antique carousel for all ages. There is also a unique museum of automated, robotic figures called the Automata Museum, which has a collection of some of the world’s oldest examples of automata.
