Hamburg Hotels
HamburgHamburg, long thought of as a mercantile capital of Europe, in reality has much to offer in the way of history, culture, civic beauty and nightlife. It is a beautiful merging of the old and the new, with its gorgeous spires, which date from the 17th century, coupled with some of the most modern and innovative architecture in existence today. It is a city filled with public parks, fountains and greenery, along with modern, up to date shopping and eating districts. Situated along the River Elbe, with Lake Alster in its geographic center, and canals crisscrossing the entire city, there are water vistas everywhere. “Must Sees” include the Altstadt, or Old City, which offers beautiful views of the city and port, the Wallringpark, a group of parks connected by their own railroad, and, for the daring, the Reeperbahn, one of Europe’s oldest red-light districts. If shopping is your thing, Hamburg offers shopping of all kinds, from the large, mall-type department stores near the city’s center to the antiques shops in the Markthalle near the main train station. If you’re looking for more upscale shopping, the trendiest boutiques with the latest fads and fashions are located in the new Gaense market area. Whatever you want, Hamburg will have it, including a fantastic public transportation system to get you where you want to go. As in most European cities, signs in English are posted everywhere, so it’s easy for the English-only speaker to get around.
