This famous boulevard in central Berlin derives its name from the trees that border its carriageways. It is a very long boulevard which had a historic importance (in the XIX century it was without any doubt the grandest street in Berlin and also the best known), it runs from the Brandeburg gate to the former Imperial palace (Berliner Stadtschloss), crossing the river Spree. Many important buildings are aligned along the boulevard, for instance the Hotel Adlon, the Berlin State Opera, the Humboldt University, the Cathedral of St Hedwig and the Berliner Dom. Unfortunately at the end of World War II most of the linden trees were chopped down but they were replanted after the war (in the 1950s).
