In the centre of Berlin, the northern end of Museum Island, an island in the Spree river, is home to some museums renowned worldwide. The Museum Island name derives from the many museums located in this area: the Old Museum (Altes Museum), the New Museum (Neues Museum), the Old National gallery (Alte
Nationalgalerie), the Bode Museum and the most famous Pergamon Museum, built in 1930 and listed by Unesco as World Heritage Site.
