Köpenick General Info
The lovely and historic village of Köpenick grew at the spot where the Dahme and Spree Rivers meet, in the south eastern corner of Berlin. It was an independent town until it became a part of Berlin in 1920. Today, it is part of the borough of Treptow-Köpenick, and a charming place to stay on any visit to Germany's capital. The principal attraction of a Köpenick hotel is that the district is home to many large and lovely forests and lakes, including the largest lake in the city, Müggelsee Lake. There is also a stunning castle on an island in the middle of the river, which is one of the biggest draws in this district. The Schloss Köpenick was built in the 1500s as a hunting lodge, and was expanded and rebuilt when Frederick I of Prussia moved in with his family. Today, the castle and its lovely grounds serve as a museum of decorative art. Once a part of East Berlin, today this district is lively and thriving. A Berlin hotel in Köpenick is a peaceful option, putting you right in a green district often referred to as the "green lungs" of this important city.
