Friedrichshain was once a part of East Berlin, close by the former Berlin Wall in the heart of the divided city. Today, it is a thriving neighbourhood in Berlin which is close by many of the city's most popular attractions. A Friedrichshain hotel puts you right in the heart of one of Berlin's most fashionable areas today. It is home to many design firms and television networks, including the headquarters of MTV Central Europe. There are countless bars, cafés and pubs, mostly near Simon-Dach-Straße and Boxhagener Platz. During the Second World War, the Friedrichshain district was one of the most heavily damaged parts of the city. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, this neighbourhood began to grow into a dynamic young district, famous for low rents and available housing. Today, the region is gentrifying, and expensive. A Berlin hotel in Friedrichshain will put you close to the small section of the Berlin Wall that still stands as an international exhibition. You will also be near the famous Karl-Marx-Allee and the Fairytale Fountain in Volkspark Friedrichshain. You will also be nearby some of Berlin's most famous monuments, including the Brandenburg Gate.
