Brandenburger Tor, or the Brandenburg Gate, is one of the main symbols of Berlin and Germany as well as being an old city gate. It's the last of it's kind and was part of a system of gates that allowed you to enter Berlin. It is the entrance to Unter den Linden, which used to lead directly to the Prussian city palace. The Brandenburg Gate is one of the most famous landmarks in all of Europe. The design of the gate was modeled in the likeness of the gateway to the Acropolis, in Athens. It is one of the few structures to survive the effects of World War II. This gate was the symbol of freedom and unification of Germany after the Berlin wall fell. The only traffic allowed through the gate is pedestrian, as it is closed to vehicular traffic.Visiting Berlin and staying in one of the many hotels the city is home to, the Brandenburg Gate is something that should be given some time to look upon. The gate is made up of twelve Doric columns, six of which are on either side. Originally, the outer two were the only ones that people were allowed to use, but that has since changed.
