The Rudolphinum

The Rudolphinum (Rudolfinum & the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra) is a perfect example of the style of Neo-Renaissance architecture that was being constructed during the rule of Crown Prince Rudolph during the late19th century. The building itself was designed and constructed by the master architects Josef Zitek and Josef Schultz, and was originally intended to be an art gallery to showcase the works of the great artists of the age, and then later evolved into a major center for cultural performances that span all areas of the arts. The Rudolphinum is currently the home of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and the Czech Chamber Music Society, and is one of the premier theaters in modern Prague for enjoying a wide range of classical music, with a focus on the master works of such composers as Rachmaninov, Schubert, and Bach to name only a few. There is also a building tour available that will give you a rare glimpse at the inner workings of an active theater, as well as a strong sense of the historic importance of this impressive addition to the Prague cultural scene.
