Sternberg Palace

The National Gallery of Prague administers an extensive collection of classical art focusing on the period between the 14th and 18th centuries at the Sternberg Palace in Prague. The Sternberg Palace is a part of the Prague Castle complex and is used primarily as the home of the National Gallery European art collection from Classical to Baroque periods. The first floor of the collection pays close attention to the ancient Greek and Roman periods, as well as works from the Tuscan and Venetian masters. The second floor of the palace focuses more on the more modern pieces, including works from artists such as Goya and van Dyck, among many others. The Sternberg Palace building is also a significant piece of architectural history, built in the late 17th century, and has a number of unique features such as elaborate ceiling paintings and wall frescoes that have been meticulously preserved. The entire Stermberg Palace has been recently renovated, and is in perhaps the best condition it has been in since the day that it was freshly built.
