Staromestska Metro Station A

Staromestska is a metro station in Prague, located along Line A. It was completed in the late nineteen seventies, and is located in the Old Town, directly under Kaprova Street. The name Staromestska in fact means “Old Town” in Czech. It is centrally located to the Municipal Library and Rudolfinum, and the Old Jewish Cemetery. The Rudolfinum is a beautiful arts center, which contains Dvorak Hall, home to the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. This metro station is centrally located and is a great place to begin any exploration of the city. It is located near many hotels, hostels, and the famous Astronomical Clock, which shows not only the positions of the sun and the moon, but has a calendar as well. Originally the station was to be much larger, with access to more underground historical sites, but these plans have been shelved. As is stands now, this metro station is an avant-garde mixture of Baroque, Gothic, and Modern styles. It has walls that are done in a pattern of interesting metallic circular depressions, and this among other features makes it one of the most photographed metro stations in Europe.
