Pruhonice Castle

If you decide to venture outside of Prague, you should consider going to the small township of Pruhonice to take in some of the sites that it has to offer. One of these sites is the Pruhonice Castle, which is one of the old fortresses of royalty during the Renaissance period of the Czechoslovakia. The castle itself was built in the Renaissance style, and has been well preserved over the years, and is a fine example of both the architecture of the period, as well as the interior design and decoration to which the Czech royalty were accustomed. While the Pruhonice Castle is not generally open to the public, there are guided tours of many areas of the castle available to visitors, though you had better brush up on your Czech, as there are no English speaking versions of the tour. The Pruhonice Castle is also home to the Institute of Botany, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and contains a world-renowned collection of flora and fauna from the region in a public botanic garden display. With all that there is to see in Pruhonice, you will find that a day trip out of Prague is well worth the time, and transportation into Pruhonice is easily accessible either through a tour service, or a bicycle tour, or via public transit.
