The New Town (Nové m?sto) was founded in 1348 by Charles IV in order to grant to the city of Prague one of the best metropolitan areas of that time. Huge roads, impressive squares and gorgeous buildings saw the light just outside the walls of the Old Town. What now is known as Wenceslas Square was originally a horse market and Charles Square was a cattle market. It seems that Charles IV took the inspiration for this expansion of the city of Prague from the city of Rome. It was here, in the New Town (Nové m?sto), that in the 15th century took place the famous first defenestration of Prague. In this astonishing area of the city of Prague you will find some amazing Gothic buildings, churches and old hotels.
