When the Mustek Metro Station was under construction over 20 years ago, it was discovered that the site rested on the remains of a medieval period bridge that once connected Old Town Prague to New Town. The name of the station is based on this fact, as mustek is Czech for “little bridge.” As you take the escalators to the lower levels of the station, you can see the remnants of the stone foundations of the stone bridge.
The station itself, while significant from an historic perspective, is still just a metro station. It is located along the edge of Old Town, and if you use the Prague Metro to get around the city, it is worth a stop for a while to see the remains of the ancient bridge, and perhaps to explore some of the sites located near the station itself, including Wenceslas Square, the Estates Theater, and the Our Lady of the Snows church. Old Town Square is also within walking distance of the Mustek Station, as well as a number of top-notch hotels. If you are looking for a central location as a base for your trip to Prague, booking a hotel near Mustek Metro Station would be a good idea.
