Jewish quarter

  (Česky: Josefov)

General Info

What still remains of Josefov, Prague's Jewish Ghetto (Jewish quarter), is what was left from the demolitions that the Jewish quarter suffered between 1893 and 1913 when a big slice of the quarter was torn down in order to make Prague look like the city of Paris. Originally the Ghetto dates back to 1096 at the time of the first crusade, when the Jewish population of Prague was enclosed for the first time in this quarter. In the Josefov you will find some of the most interesting attractions of Prague like Kafka's Birthplace, the Old Jewish Cemetery, the Old New Synagogue, the Jewish Town Hall and the Spanish Synagogue.
