Xian, China, is surrounded by rich farmland and is the center of the Shanxi Province. It was once home to the ruling class of the Qin, Han, Sui and Tang dynasties. In fact Xian is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China having been the capital city of at least 16 dynasties. Xian was the eastern end of the ancient Silk Road and has over 3,100 years of history. Since the 1990’s Xian has emerged as an important cultural and tourist center and has emerged as the center of China’s space industry. Sixteen dynasties of ancient China made Xian their capital cities and because of this it is home to some amazing architecture and remnants of nearly 3,100 years of history. As you would expect from China there are several temples in Xian; and one of the best is the Temple of the Eight Immortals (Ba Xian An). The biggest attraction in Xian and the reason that most tourists come here is the Terracotta Warriors. It nearly 700,000 workers to build these amazing statues, which are in reality built from one single piece of terracotta. Pit 1 of the Terracotta Warriors dig contains an astounding 6,000 soldiers; pit 2 contains 1,400 soldiers and cavalry. The sight of this amazing architectural wonder will leave most travelers speechless. Xian: When looking for a hotel in Xian it is best to stay away from the hotels near the railway station. The only reason the locals ever go near the station is to catch a train and you should definitely follow their example.
