Zurich is a city in northeastern Switzerland with a population of about 375,000 people. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities on earth, and in deed was voted the city with the best quality of life in several international surveys. Its nickname is “Gateway to the Alps”, and, indeed the Alps are everywhere you look in Zurich. Zurich has over 2,000 places to eat and drink, and during the summer months, that number swells by about 500 as many open air eateries open for the warm weather. Zurich is a sportsman’s dream, with skiing in the winter, and many water activities on Lake Zurich. The architecture is stunning, and there are tours to suit any tastes. There are trams that climb into the Alps that give spectacular views of the mountains surrounding, and of the city below. For those who live to shop, there is the Bahnhofstrasse, and Zurich has an excellent public transit system. In addition, it offers the very earth friendly service of free bicycle rental. The night life in Zurich is extensive, with over 500 bars and night clubs, so, day or night, whatever your tastes, Zurich has something for you. If you feel like seeing some animals, there is a lovely zoo, the Zoological Garden, as well.
