Lucerne Hotels
LucerneEver wanted to step into a beautiful picture, or climb inside a snow globe? This is what it’s like to go to Lucerne, a city of 60,000 people located in central Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Lucerne. It is a spectacularly beautiful city, with unparalleled views of the Alps, the gorgeous lake, and the delightful city, which is the perfect blend of the ancient and the modern. Because it is a city that dates back to the Middle Ages, Lucerne is the perfect city to tour on foot; everywhere you look there will be a historical building or landmark, a beautiful view of the river, or a medieval bridge spanning it. There’s a Franciscan Church, a Jesuit Church, the Chapel Bridge, a water tower built in the 1300s that was used as a prison and torture chamber in addition to storing water. The Hof Church, with its twin spires, is the primary cathedral of the city, and there’s a town hall, which dates back to the early 1600s. There are festivals of one sort or another nearly all year round, and there’s a tram that will take you high in the Alps, so you can look down on the city and lake. It is one of the most breathtaking views to be had anywhere on earth. And we haven’t even covered the nightlife, shopping, and food! There are shops to suit every taste and wallet, shops which sell clothing, souvenirs, and of course the jewelry and watches for which the Swiss are famous. Be sure you come to Lucerne ready to shop! And after you’ve finished, you can stop in one of the hundreds of coffee shops and cafes to relax and have some of the finest food in Europe. There are restaurants that, weather permitting, turn into al fresco bistros with gorgeous views of the lake. Being in Lucerne is like being on top of a beautifully decorated cake, a fairyland of sights, sounds, and tastes.
