Geneva Hotels
GenevaWhen one thinks of beautiful cities, Geneva must surely come to mind. Located at the foot of Lake Geneva, along the border to France, it is a small city of approximately 200,000 people, but its reputation is that of an international, cosmopolitan urban center of unsurpassed beauty. In the summer it sparkles under the sun, and in the winter it looks like the proverbial winter wonderland, a picturesque city of spires and castles, the kind of city you’d see in miniature in a child’s snow globe. Beginning with the famous Jet d’eau, the beautiful fountain in the middle of the lake, there’s no end to the lovely sights in this ancient city. There is St. Peter’s Cathedral, the Reformation Wall, the Flower Clock, and the incomparable Place du Bourg-de-Four. There are guided tours by train, car, and boat, or, for the more active among you, there are walking tours, both guided and self guided. Open-air buses combine the best of both worlds, where you can sit back and relax, and still see the city while breathing the fresh air. Geneva is home to many world organizations, which is part of what gives such a quaint, small town its international savoir-faire; due to its proximity to France, French is the language of choice here, though like most European cities, it is very English-friendly. Eating in Geneva is an experience in and of itself, with the best in international cuisine, with a full assortment of wines from which to choose. In nice weather, there is terrace dining, or al fresco, as restaurants set up on the sidewalks in front of their windows, and in the colder weather, one can sit back with a cup of hot chocolate and look out at the beautiful city. Geneva offers the best in European shopping, with boutiques offering the latest in haute couture, along with vintage shops in the old quarter where many bargains are to be found. Truly, Geneva is a jewel in Europe’s crown.
