Victoria Hotels
VictoriaVictoria is a city of approximately 80,000 people that sits on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, in the province of British Columbia, Canada. It is hands down one of the most beautiful places on earth. In spite of its northern latitude, the weather is surprisingly mild, and the English influence can be strongly felt in the architecture of the city, which leaves you feeling like you’ve traveled to England for the day. The Parliament Building in downtown Victoria is one of the most photographed buildings in the world, not for what happens there, but simply for its unsurpassed beauty, with its wide steps, arched doorways, and main dome, flanked by two smaller, matching domes. At night it’s lit up like the proverbial Christmas tree, and it shows its beauty in a whole different way. Another landmark that mustn’t be missed is the Empress Hotel, where high tea is served in the traditional English style. There are bus tours available to nearby Butchart Gardens, where, especially in the spring and summer, the flowers bloom in riotous, mind-blowing color. You can make a pit stop at the Butterfly Gardens along the way, and see beautiful tropical butterflies in all stages of development in a natural, tropical setting. Downtown Victoria is not to be missed, either. It’s like stepping into Victorian London, with a little modernization, of course. There are shops that sell everything from antiques to Native American arts and crafts and teashops and pubs where you can take a rest and have a drink of whichever you choose. There are ocean day cruises where, if you’re lucky, you can see killer whales and humpback whales, and gulls and even bald eagles sometimes. And all around are either the ocean or the snow-capped mountains - it isn’t called “Beautiful British Columbia” for nothing!
