Calgary

Calgary is a beautiful city located in the province of Alberta, Canada. It is about 200 miles from the American border, and has a population of approximately 1,100,000 people. Nestled at the foot of the great Rocky Mountains, it is perhaps most famous for hosting the 1988 Winter Olympics. But there is much, much more to Calgary than the Olympics: It calls to outdoors people from all over the world to come and explore its national parks and wilderness areas. It is a beautiful city, with clear, crisp air, and wide, clean streets. There are outdoor activities all year long, from hiking to biking, from kayaking to riding trails on horseback. And of course the skiing, ice skating, other winter sports activities are superb. It is a short one and a half hour drive to world famous Banff National Park, and there are tours available which will take you deep into the Canadian Rockies. For the serious outdoorsmen among you, there are even hunting and fishing tours, where you’ll camp out in tents and cook over open fires. You can see how the cowboys lived. For those who want to stay in town, Calgary is an urban metropolis in its own right, with a modern, up to date cosmopolitan flair all its own. There are municipal parks and gardens, including the Calgary Zoo, Botanical Garden and Prehistoric Park. Weather permitting; there are many golf courses, all of which offer spectacular views of the city and mountains that surround them. Of course there’s plenty to buy in Calgary as well, with Stephen Avenue walk being turned into a Pedestrian Paradise (no cars allowed) so you can browse the specialty shops, upscale fashion boutiques and unique crafts stores filled with local Native American ware. There is also a thriving jewelry business in Calgary, with many stores carrying pieces made from local gemstones. And when you are ready to eat, get ready to indulge yourself with everything from five course meals served in private dining rooms to Calgary specialties like buffalo, venison, or their world famous Alberta Beef. You can find anything you want in Calgary.
