Amsterdam is a top European destination and is easy to reach. There are lots of direct flights from other continents flying into Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, which is the fourth largest in Europe. Once you touch down, getting to the city center is easy. Quick train rides to cover the few miles to the city center run every 10 minutes. There are also airport shuttles to over 100 hotels in Amsterdam, which is considerably more the train. Also, guests should check if their hotel provides complimentary transportation, as many do. Taxis and limousines also are both plentiful at the airport and can be reserved in advance.

Amsterdam is very walkable, and most of the major sites are located near, or within, the city center. There is also excellent public transportation, but driving is something you’ll not want to do within the canal ring. The traditional Dutch way to travel is by bike, and locals say it’s the way to get the true taste of the city, with lots of great bike paths throughout the city.
Trams run regularly until after midnight and provide a great way to get away in Amsterdam without learning a complicated schedule. City buses are mostly used at night after the trams stop, and to reach outlying areas and suburbs. The Metro in Amsterdam is very fast, but is more useful traveling to the Arena or far outside the city. The Canal Bus runs regularly on three different routes through the city, and they do point out major attractions and history along the way.
