Santas on the Run!

north_pole_express.jpg

As we have always been told, Santa travels on a flying sleigh. Probably in Denmark they thought that he needed some excercise… Last Saturday, thousands of Santas gathered for a six kilometers run in the small city of Kalundborg. Their aim was to get into the Guinness Book of World Records and to raise funds for poor children. While they raised a good amount of money for the less fortunate, they didn’t defeat the Santas on the Run record, held by the city of Liverpool in the U.K. Only 1300 running santas reached the end of the race!

Copehnagen and the Tivoli

An island crossed by dozens of canals, where water is not felt as a menace but is a close friend and where the beauty of the city lies not in majestic monuments but in the beautiful XVII century buildings coasting its streets. The symbol of this city is an amusement park: the “Tivoli“, where you will find not only children, but the whole population of Copenhagen.

Copenhagen was founded in 1167 and, since, 1417 it is the official capital of Denmark. Strolling through its streets you’ll be taken back in time: from the Dutch quarter of Christian IV (Christianshavn) to the Kings Garden with its “Rose’s Castle” (Rosenborg), from Christianborg’s Castle (home to the Danish Parliament) to the Charlottenborg (Arts Academy), from the Botanical Garden at Arken, which looks like a futuristic boat stranded near the sea, gorgeous example of experimental architecture, to the surprising Royal Library and to the lovely “little mermaid”.

The “Tivoli” amusement park, opened on August of 1843. In the Tivoli gardens, open only during summer time, amusement rides and roller coasters stand side by side with flower beds and fountains, with concerts, ballets, mime shows, theatre and a beautiful journey through H.C. Andersen’s fairytales. There are also many restaurants and a Museum on the park’s history with drawings, pictures and cast models.
