Mendoza: Argentina’s Wine Country

When you think of the great wine regions of the world, automatically you think about Chianti, Bordeaux, Napa, but another one should be added to that list: Mendoza.

Tucked into the Argentine foothills of the Andes Mountains, Mendoza is Latin America’s largest wine region, with more than 365,000 acres producing over 260 million gallons of wine every year. Winning wine prizes all over the world, Mendoza wines include the famous Malbec, Torrontes, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay.

Paying a visit to Mendoza means sipping your way through more than 1,200 vineyards, in addition to spending time in a charming city dominated by Parque San Martin, Plaza Independencia, and the beautiful Plaza España. Keep an eye out during the summer for outdoor wine festivals, concerts, and parades.


Just outside of the city of Mendoza, you’ll find all of the wineries, which offer tours, tastings, and beautiful picnic grounds. Further out, the Mendoza region also offers plenty of activities for outdoor enthusiasts: outdoor thermal spas, white water rafting, skiing, and paragliding. Just do yourself a favor and schedule your trips to the winery on a separate day!
