Salvador Dalí

Tomorrow will be the 20th anniversary of the death of Salvador Dalí. The great surrealist artist was born in 1904 in a small town in Spain, near the border with France. He died for a heart failure while listening to his favourite record in his home in Figueres. His mortal remains are kept in the krypt of his theatre/museum in his hometown of Figueres. The Old Man and the Sea!

Cuban old man

Tomorrow is going to be the seventh anniversary of the death of Gregorio Fuentes. Gregorio Fuentes was accredited by many as being the inspiration for the character of Santiago, the protagonist of Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea”, even though Hemingway himself stated that the character of his book resembled no one in particular. Furthermore it is known that while writing his book the American writer went fishing with another Cuban fisherman: Carlos Gutierez. Anyhow, probably due to his longevity and his relationship with Hemingway, Fuentes through the years, became an attraction for those who visited Cuba, who used to pay 15 dollars in order to take a picture with him and ear his stories about Hemingway.
