The Naschmarkt, or sweet market has existed since around the 16th century. Vegetables and milk were sold on the edges of the Wien river, and has become a tradition in Vienna. After a time, the location of the market changed to where it is today. Much like they did a hundred years ago, people walk through the market seeking out fresh fruits, vegetables, and other foods that are at their cheapest here. These days the Naschmarkt has just as much to offer, if not more, but also has more Oriental influence than in the earlier days. It is as if an Oriental bazaar opens up in Vienna. From fresh fruits and vegetables to just cooked meats, Naschmarkt has everything you would need for a camp out, or for simply stocking your crisper.
Along with selling foods there is a flea market and an expanded farmer's market. After over 80 years, the market has only grown and adapted to the world around it, keeping it successful, interesting, and intriguing! All round the Naschmarkt there are bars and restaurants that can meet anyone's taste or style. Barbeque, Japanese buffet, Greek foods and Italian foods... they are all available. Staying in Vienna is nothing if you don't visit the Naschmarkt at least once! There are many hotels around the area, so when you book your trip, make sure to choose one close to Naschmarkt.
