Sydney

Sydney, with a population of approximately 4.3 million people, is the most populous city in Australia. It is located on the southeastern coast of Australia, and is the city that comes to mind when one thinks of Australia. It is situated on Sydney Harbor, which, with its iconic Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge, is one of the most recognizable places on earth. Because of its exotic location in Australia, “down under” on the other side of the world, Sydney has been a popular tourist destination for years. The people of Sydney, known as “Sydneysiders”, are known the world over for their friendliness and hospitality, and Sydney itself is an eclectic mixture of the old and the new, of the traditional and the modern. There is the world famous Taronga Zoo, as well as the water theme Luna Park, and of course the Opera House always has performances of all kinds. If you like sports and outdoor activities, there will be a lot for you to do in Sydney. The city is full of parks, such as the Chinese Garden of Friendship, the Botanical Gardens, and Hyde Park. It is a sportsman’s paradise, with hiking, biking, golfing, and of course swimming in the beautiful ocean and playing at the numerous beaches. If you’re willing to go outside the city limits, boats can be chartered for fishing or snorkeling, and there are many Aboriginal museums and sites, as well, which showcase Aboriginal history and art. Just a few short miles outside Sydney one can find jeep tours of the natural landscape, and see animals that live only in Australia. And as an international tourist destination, Sydney offers world-class cuisine and shopping. It is also conveniently warm there when most of us are cold, so it makes a nice “winter getaway” trip to a sunny, warm locale. From harbor cruises to nature tours, to museums, to shopping, to kayaking with the dolphins, everyone will find something to do in Sydney.
